Virtual charades is a game where players take turns acting out a word or phrase without speaking, while the other players try to guess what the word or phrase is. It is typically played over a video call or other virtual platform. The game can be played individually or in teams, and the team or individual with the most correct guesses at the end of the game wins.

Variations

Reverse Charades: In this version, instead of one player acting out a word or phrase for the team to guess, the whole team acts out the word or phrase for one player to guess. This can be done virtually by having each team member take turns acting out the word or phrase on camera for the designated guesser.

Impression Charades: This version requires players to act out an impression of a celebrity, character, or well-known person instead of a word or phrase. This can be done virtually by having players use props or costumes they have at home to help with their impression.

Music Charades: This version requires players to act out a song or musical artist instead of a word or phrase. This can be done virtually by playing a clip of the song or artist for the player to guess, and having the player act out the song or artist on camera.

Pop Culture Charades: This version requires players to act out a movie, TV show, or other pop culture reference instead of a word or phrase. This can be done virtually by having players use props or costumes they have at home to help with their act.

Animal Charades: This version requires players to act out an animal instead of a word or phrase. This can be done virtually by having players use stuffed animals or animal masks they have at home to help with their act.

Action Charades: In this version, players act out a physical action or activity instead of a word or phrase. This can be done virtually by having players use props or gestures on camera to act out the action or activity.

GAME RULES

The rules of virtual charades are similar to traditional charades. The objective of the game is to guess the word or phrase being acted out by a member of the team without speaking. Here are the basic rules:

Divide the group into two or more teams.
Each team selects a member to be the actor.
The actor is given a word or phrase to act out using gestures and body language.
The actor has a set amount of time (usually 1-2 minutes) to act out the word or phrase while the team members guess.
The team members can shout out their guesses and the actor can use gestures to indicate if they are close to the correct answer.
If the team guesses correctly within the time limit, they receive a point.
The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.
Virtual charades can be played using a video conferencing platform like Zoom or Skype. The actor can mute their microphone while they act out the word or phrase to ensure that they don't accidentally speak.

Setup

GAME SETUP

The setup for virtual charades is quite simple. All you need is a video conferencing platform where everyone can see and hear each other, and a list of charades prompts that you can share with the players.

Here are the steps to set up a virtual charades game:

Choose a video conferencing platform: Popular options include Zoom, Skype, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams.

Set up the video call: Schedule a time for your virtual charades game and send out invitations with the link to join the video call.

Choose a charades word list: You can create your own charades prompts or find pre-made lists online.

Share the rules with the players: Make sure everyone understands the rules and how to play the game.

Assign teams or players: Depending on the number of players, you can split everyone into teams or have individuals play against each other.

Start the game: Begin the game by having the first player or team select a charades prompt and act it out for the other players to guess.

Keep score: Keep track of the score throughout the game to determine the winner at the end.

Have fun!
